Prepare for Clinical

This year the university was selling tote bags that have the words “nursing” written on it in the colour pink. I can’t wait for the nursing tote bags to be ready so that I can take it with me to my clinical placement! I am so very thrilled to be a part of the nursing team in January.

As of January the university I am attending to will have hospital placements set up for the first year nursing students. This year we will be working with the elderly. This is a very exciting time for all the students because everything we have learned so far will be put to the test.

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun!

I am sure most of us are stressed that finals are around the corner. But when you think back, can you believe how fast this semester has gone by? This semester has truly been amazing; meeting new class mates, incredible instructors and experiencing life on residence. Life at university will be unforgettable. You know what they say “Time flies when you’re having fun”. Remember all those sleepless nights? Remember missing meal because you had to get that essay done? But you know what? At the end it was all worth it. We all worked really hard this semester; we should all be proud of ourselves that we made it this far.

Nursing Shortages

This is a video that was presented by one of my fellow classmates in my “Development of Self as a Nurse” class. I found this video very touching and very heartbreaking at the same time. This video has made me realize how much more important the role of a nurse really is. I knew that a nurse is a rewarding career but I didn’t realize how a nurse really touches one’s life. That is something I have always wanted; I’ve always told myself that the field I will get into will is something that will make a difference in someone’s life. Nursing is exactly everything I want in a career. Now more than ever I want to go out there and help the people in need.

Reducing Communication Barriers

In the last 10 years technology in the health care system has advanced significantly. In my opinion technology is playing a crucial role by reducing communication barriers with clients and nurses. This is done through telehealth, online database journals, and digital charts. These types of technology are providing nurses and health care workers additional time to communicate with the patient. For example, if there is a patient with a language barrier; power point presentations maybe used to educate the client. Another example is if a client is not sure if they have an injury that is an emergency they can call telehealth to get an immediate response. Therefore, technology is essential for the health and safety of patients.
